The highlight of The Kills’ Midnight Boom LP, “Black Balloon”, is a slow burner either about a relationship going south, or an allusion to heroin use. Whatever your take it’s a shining example of “less is more” — a simple guitar line, a restrained vocal performance, and hand claps — producing magic. It’s being released in the UK on the Black Balloon EP (10″ format, 23 March) while Australia gets a 7″ of “Tape Song” / “London Hates You” (13 March).
