Waltz Along with Bridezilla’s Debut Album

Formed in 2005 during high school, Bridezilla consists of Holiday Carmen-Sparks (vocals, guitar), Daisy Tulley (violin), Pia May Courtley (guitar), Millie Hall (saxophone), and Josh Bush (drums). Their self-titled debut EP in 2007 had critics comparing the group’s opiate-folk to the likes of Nick Cave and The Dirty Three and Holiday’s bewitching vocals to Hope Sandoval and PJ Harvey.
In the years since, they’ve toured with everyone from Wilco and Cold War Kids, to The Drones and Sia and later this month Bridezilla will become one of only three Australian bands invited to perform at New York’s prestigious, Flaming Lips-curated ATP Festival.
In January this year Brizdezilla were the first signings to Inertia Recordings, the in-house label of the renown Australian distributor. The recording took place in a barn by The Colo River, New South Wales and saw the group “face off against bats, rats, flies, lice, and African thorn-bush.” Not exactly another day at the office.
Helmed by uberproducer, Kramer (Daniel Johnston, Leader Cheetah, Palace Songs, Galaxie 500), with additional recordings by Chris Townsend (Portishead, Sun), The First Dance features “songs that are as creative and curious as the young minds which spawned them. Lead single, “Beaches”, flutters with yearning and escapism. The near-completely instrumental “Soft Porn” floats with peace and perspective. Tracks like “The Western Front” and “White Feather” are sparse, cinematic journeys; while songs like “Lunar Eclipse” and “The Last Dance” manage to be both hushed and intense.”
The Webcuts editorial team is excited about the forthcoming album especially after hearing the single “Beaches” (MP3) which is a short but sweet taste as delicious as the pomegranate that adorns The First Dance’s cover. For more thorough, stalking, er following, of the band visit their blog.
