The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms

There’s Springsteen and Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra and Yo La Tengo, but the true pride of New Jersey really belongs to The Feelies. Recently reunited after over a decade in the rock and roll wilderness, The Feelies are back making headlines once more. Highly influential in the alternative rock world, from Weezer who copied the cover of Crazy Rhythms for their debut album, to bands like Luna who just about stole their sound (who The Feelies stole off Velvet Underground, but hey, it’s all good).

With their albums out of print now for many years, it’s been a matter of contention with music fans demanding their return. Domino records are proud to announce (as are we proud to report) the re-release of two classic albums by The Feelies, the new wave brilliance of  their debut Crazy Rhythms and its follow-up The Good Earth due out on the 26th of October. It goes without saying, but Crazy Rhythms is one of the greatest albums you’ll ever hear, if not one of the top dozen albums of all time.

Those lured with the attraction of unreleased material in the form of demos, b-sides, EP tracks and live recordings will be both pleased and feel somewhat disappointed as they these tracks don’t appear on physical copies of the album, but via download cards inserted into both LPs and CDs. Download cards? I guess The Feelies are the purist type where “if it wasn’t on the album then, it’s not on the album now”. Ho-hum. Goodbye too their storming cover of the Rolling Stones “Paint It Black” tacked onto the end of Crazy Rhythms — it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth completely. With deluxe packaging with liner notes by Jim Derogatis and Jim Sullivan, this is contender for reissue of the year.
