PJ Harvey and John Parish unveil their Black Hearted Love

With a new album about to be released on March 30 in the intriguingly titled A Man A Woman Walked By, it’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since Dance Hall At Louse Point, PJ Harvey and John Parish’s first collaboration released in 1996.
Arriving a year after Harvey’s most commercially successful album To Bring You My Love, Louse Point was a bleaker foray into the world of PJ Harvey. Not one to limit herself to a certain style or approach, Louse Point was a diverse collection of lyrical songs and instrumentals, running from the reflective “That Was My Veil” to the frenzied howl of “Taut”. Having first played together in Parish’s band Automatic Dlamini, PJ Harvey’s first ever band, Parish has been a regular touring companion with Harvey and this follow-up collaboration has long been anticipated.
Keeping to the original collaborative process, all music on A Man A Woman Walked By was written by Parish with lyrics and vocals by Harvey. The album is to be released on March 30, with the single “Black Hearted Love” following a week later. It’s accompanying video was filmed by the celebrated British artists Jake and Dinos Chapman. Speaking about the video, the brothers explained that “‘Black Hearted Love’ deserved something haunting and enigmatic – yet brazen and colourful. Hence, a collision between an ominous forest and a garish bouncy castle seemed entirely appropriate.”
While the album is not released for another week, from this Monday 5 tracks from A Woman A Man Walked By can be previewed on the Last FM website here. The video for “Black Hearted Love” is available to watch below and is but a button-press away.
