Merge - Score

As a companion piece to their subscriber-only 20th Anniversary 14 disc box set curated by such luminaries as REM’s Peter Buck, Jonathan Lethem and David Byrne, the people at Merge Records have seperately released SCORE! 20 Years of Merge Records: THE COVERS! which will be available in stores on April 7.

Much Like the Dark Was The Night compilation, all proceeds of SCORE! go to benefit charities handpicked by the SCORE! curators, so you get that rockin’out and feelin’ good about it factor to boot.

The tracklisting is a seriously star-packed selection of current musical acts covering the hits and misses of Merge’s back catalogue. Where else would you find Death Cab for Cutie covering Superchunk or Times New Viking covering Arcade Fire? Not to mention Tracey Thorn and Jens Lekman covering the Magnetic Fields? I’m already rueing not forking out my dough for the box set, but at least all is not lost with this compilation.

Merge have kindly offered a free download already to get you all excited. So here is Les Savy Fav covering Superchunk’s “Precision Auto“.
