Never has there been a band that by sheer force of will have established such consistency in their art, while still sounding as fresh and captivating as when they first arrived. Let it be said, Bettie Serveert have been around a long time. Their Matador/4AD debut of 1992, Palomine captured the essence of the time, where bittersweet lyrics filled with longing and passion met with musicians who rode their instruments like wild horses. Where bands like Bettie Serveert, Pavement and Sebadoh redefined the alternative pop language and landscape. 18 years and 8 albums later, Bettie Serveert remain at the core, unchanged. “Deny All”, the lead track from their latest album Pharmacy of Love, plays the Bettie’s ‘rocking out’ card, all guns blazing with guitar, bass and drums converging on the down-beat and vocalist Carol Van Dyk playing the spirited aggressor. Pharmacy of Love is out now through PIAS in Europe and Second Motion Records in the States. You can download “Deny All” here.
