Metric

Metric

Webcuts often considers upping sticks and moving to Canada because of the great bands and music scene that Toronto has to offer, but frankly cold weather ain’t our thing and not only that, I once knocked myself out walking down an icy road. Suffice to say — it ain’t gonna happen. That said, we are seriously in love with fellow Canadians Metric and their new album Fantasies (Apr 7 ROW, Apr 11 Aus), if you hadn’t noticed already. While we’ll review the album in full next week (go, Caleb!) here is another song, the biting “Sick Muse” available for download.

Metric – “Sick Muse” (128kps, 3.9MB)

Of course the whole of Fantasies is available for streaming via Metric’s MySpace page (did someone say *cough* leak?)

Swan Lake

And if we didn’t just kiss some serious maple leaf ass, here we go again with the almighty Swan Lake. Living proof that Canadian musicians aren’t as incestuous as they appear to be, Swan Lake are made up of….oh wait, I’m totally lying — THEY ARE INCESTUOUS. Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade), Daniel Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers), and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach) are the three swans in this Swan Lake. These dudes are essentially Gods of indie (all hail Dan Bejar), and their track record speaks for itself, so is there really anything else you need know? From Enemy Mine (24-Mar US, 3-Apr Aus) here are three (yes three!) free MP3s available for your listening pleasure –- each one with a different vocalist, showcasing the diversity of this record.

Swan Lake – “Spanish Gold, 2044″ (192kps, 7.2MB)
Swan Lake – “Spider” (192kps, 3.8MB)
Swan Like – “A Hand at Dusk” (192kps, 8.4MB)

Lotus Plaza

Lockett Pundt undeniably owns one of the most fascinating and eye-catching names in all of music, but is Lotus Plaza the most fascinating band? For the uninitiated, Lockett is the guitarist in the quite seriously brilliant Atlanta, GA band Deerhunter who also joins frontman Bradford Cox in the ‘this band ain’t big enough for the both of us’ side project stakes (Cox can be found regularly moonlighting in Atlas Sound). The Floodlight Collective (Apr 11) is gorgeous, dreamy rock for fans of Deerhunter and fans of hunting in general. Look for a review of The Floodlight Collective on Webcuts very soon, but for now here’s a one track taster. ATL in the house!

Lotus Plaza – Red Oak Way (128kps, 3.8MB)

All the above are distributed in Australia via Inertia.
